The North Central Satellite of the National Association of Women Business Owners of Iowa (NAWBO) will host a panel discussion titled “Successful Women Business Startups: Lessons Learned” on June 29, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Whoop-ti-doos located at 626 2nd Street, Webster City. Panelists will share their stories and the lessons they learned starting and growing their businesses. Cost for this event is $10 for NAWBO members and $15 for non-members. Appetizers and beverages will be served. To register, go to nawboiowa.org. Registration deadline is Friday, June 24th by 5 pm.

Local business women featured on the panel include Stacy Wearda, owner of Neighborhood Realty in Webster City and Fort Dodge; Denise Smith, owner of SOS Vintage in Webster City; and Sherri Windecker, owner of Style Works – Women’s Clothing and Accessories in Iowa Falls.

Wearda started in real estate in 2004 while working as a nurse and then decided to go into real estate full time. She received her broker’s license in 2006 and started her own real estate firm, Neighborhood Realty, later that year in Webster City with expansion into the Fort Dodge market in 2012.

Smith calls herself an “accidental entrepreneur” and was looking for a career change after her youngest was born and began selling antiques and vintage items. After being a vendor at a few antique shows, she ran into Webster City Area Chamber Director Deb Brown who encouraged her to consider opening a store in Webster City. One thing led to another and Smith opened SOS Vintage in downtown Webster City in May 2014.

Windecker has been a business owner for over 17 years. Throughout her career, she has had to adapt her business to meet the needs of her clients and serves as a mentor to many women business owners in the Iowa Falls area. Her goal is to give her customers a pleasant shopping experience at her business Style Works and to have them looking their best with quality, fashionable clothing that they purchased locally.
